Dr. Eugene Tian is the State Economist at the Hawaii Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism (DBEDT). His office conducts research on economic issues such as tourism, emerging industries, diversification, quality of life, technology, energy, and taxation. His team also produces the official statewide economic forecast on a quarterly basis and the long-range population and economic forecast every 5 years.
Paul H. Brewbaker is the Principal of TZ Economics, a Hawaii consultancy. His background in research on the Hawaii economy and in financial risk analytics stems from a 25-year affiliation with Bank of Hawaii, concluding as its Chief Economist. He is a graduate of Stanford University, did graduate work at the University of Wisconsin, and received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Hawaii. Over the years he also has lectured in economic theory, international, and financial economics. He is a member of the American Economic Association, the American Finance Association, and received the Certified Business Economist designation from the National Association for Business Economics. Brewbaker is a long-time board member of the Hawaii Economic Association.

Lisa H. Gibson is the President of Rising Tide Economics, a Hawaii-based economic development firm which focuses on assisting communities and regions create customized regional economic growth strategies with a focus on economic clusters of opportunity. She is the founder and past president of the Hawaii Science & Technology Council and is the former Chief Operating Officer of Enterprise Honolulu.

Jonathan joined the HEA board of directors in 2017. He is the Director of Analytics at the University of Hawaii Economic Research Organization (UHERO). His team creates data visualizations and data management systems. Jonathan also teaches a course on data analysis and visualization at the University of Hawaii.

Paul serves as a director-at-large. His background is in equity and economic analysis. He now follows the construction industry and its impact on Hawaii’s economy for the Pacific Resource Partnership. Parent to two daughters who reside on the East Coast, he reads, listens to jazz, and watches obscure films.

Prior to that role, he was an economist and analyst at the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission and State Energy Office. He earned his MA in Economics and International Relations from Johns Hopkins SAIS.

Sherilyn Wee is an Economist at the State of Hawaii’s Division of Consumer Advocacy. She is also an Affiliated Researcher at the University of Hawaii Economic Research Organization (UHERO) and teaches an energy economics course at the University of Hawaii.

Energy Analyst, Hawaii State Energy Office, has extensive experience planning, developing and managing aggressive programs and projects for energy efficiency and clean energy goals.
