HEA COVID-19 In-person Event Policy

Date: October 14, 2021

Subject: HEA COVID-19 Policy for in-person events

Background: This document outlines the guidelines and procedures for holding in-person Hawaii Economics Association (HEA) events amidst the uncertainty caused by COVID-19. The policies outlined will be in effect until COVID-19 is no longer considered a public health emergency by the Hawaii State Government.

Policy for Holding In-Person Events

HEA will follow the official State as well as City and County of Honolulu guidelines. Mandates and guidelines by these governmental and public health bodies will supersede HEA guidelines, below, as necessary. Event attendance requirements will be published in event announcements

  • Hybrid events. Preparations will be made for all planned in-person events for a virtual format, giving HEA the flexibility to accommodate unforeseen changes to public health risks.
  • In-person events. HEA will consider whether to proceed with an event per official restrictions and guidance on indoor gatherings and expected HEA attendance.
  • Requirements for in-person attendance. Per State and City & County guidelines, attendees may be required to provide proof of vaccination or proof of a negative covid test taken no more than 48 hours prior to the event; persons unable to provide such proof will not be permitted to attend the event.
  • Venue guidelines. In-person event venues are required to provide flexibility to utilize the venue at a later date at no additional cost if public guidelines prohibit indoor gatherings that are smaller than the expected number of participants.

The policies outlined above may be amended at any time by the HEA Board.
